HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Press Releases
AUSTIN POWERS’ FAMOUS CITROEN CONTINUES TO TURN HEADS AT 30TH ANNUAL DALLAS COLLECTOR CAR AUCTION

An Outstanding Muscle Car Assortment, Hotter-Than-Hot Rods, and “The Spy Who Shagged Me” Vibrant Orange Ride Go On The Block – November 22-24, 2002

DALLAS (November 1, 2002) –Leake Auction Company and Kruse International once again join forces to host the 30th Annual Dallas Collector Car Auction – now the oldest and largest collector car auction in the Lone Star state. This year’s three-day event, scheduled for November 22-24, will feature 500 vehicles. The star-studded cast includes one of the most famous movie cars of all time, plus some of the rarest Muscle Cars ever offered and an assortment of eye-popping hot rods.

The literal star of the show is undoubtedly the Citroen 2CV used in both Austin Powers movies – The Spy Who Shagged Me and the recently released Goldmember. Owned by a leading Hollywood production company, this car has been in California since 1966 and comes with service records back to the 1970s. It’s an unrestored, rust-free example of the most collectible Citroen model and this one comes with a stellar Hollywood provenance.

Muscle Car collectors should not miss this year’s auction because some of the country’s most outstanding examples of rare, hard-to-find models will be go under the hammer starting with what may be the best Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 Convertible in the world. It’s believed that only 17 LS6 Convertibles with M2-22 4-speed transmissions were built, and this is one of them. The 1970 blue beauty with white hood stripes has matching numbers, is fully optioned, and has a history back to new. Until late 2001, this vehicle was owned by noted Muscle Car collector Dick Bridges and is complete with original build sheets, window sticker and sales contract.

Ford Fans will not have to take a back seat to the Chevy and Mopar camps at this year's sale. Among the most notable cars ever to wear the blue oval, Shelby Mustangs will once again take center stage in Dallas. No great auction would be complete without a Shelby GT 500 Convertible, which has just recently completed a full, rotisserie restoration. Additionally, a very rare and desirable 1966 Shelby GT 350 H, most often remembered as the "Rent a racer" car, will be offered as well as a GT 500 KR Fastback. For those who want something a little different, the Mustang Boss 351 Fastback represents the last of the breed and the "high water" mark of Ford Muscle Cars.

Street rodders don’t have to look any further than the 1937 Ford Street Rod Coupe, red over yellow, which was completed in late 2001. Built from a one-owner vehicle, this head turner has already pulled down numerous awards including a second place and Street Rodder Magazine’s Award of Excellence at the 2002 Cavalcade of Customs and first place at the 2002 Autorama in Dayton Ohio.

Other exceptional vehicles showcased in this year’s auction mix include:

  • 1966 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible Hemi
  • 1948 Chrysler Traveler 4-Door sedan
  • 1970 Dodge Challenger RT hardtop V8
  • 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser Pace Car Convertible
  • 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe V8 Copo
  • 1956 Cadillac Convertible Sedan

“Buyers won’t be disappointed at the quality or the quantity of the vehicles we have secured for this landmark Dallas event,” says auction organizer Richard Sevenoaks. “The Muscle Car lineup is very strong, and with the overwhelming popularity of the Austin Powers’ films, we expect a great deal of interest in the little Citroen.”

Held at Dallas Market Hall, located at 2200 Stemmons Freeway in Dallas, general admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Bidder registration fees are $50.00 and there is a 6% buyer premium for cars, 15% for automotive memorabilia. The auction begins at 3:00 p.m. Friday, 10:00 a.m. Saturday and 11:00 a.m. Sunday, with doors open for viewing beginning at 9:00 a.m each day.
