LEAKE AUCTION
HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Press Releases
Leake Car Auction to celebrate 35 years in June

TULSA, Okla. (May 8, 2007) — The 35th Annual Leake Car Auction will take place at Expo Square, June 8-10. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 12. Doors open at 9 a.m. daily, and auctions begin at noon on Friday, 10 a.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. Sunday.

This year’s event will feature more than 700 cars including Cadillacs, Corvettes, Camaros, Shelbys, Mopars, Thunderbirds, and other vintage, collector, muscle and specialty cars. More than 10,000 car buyers, sellers and enthusiasts are expected to attend the milestone event.

“For 35 years, this auction has been an integral experience for car lovers and consistently delivered some of the best automobile collections out there,” said Richard Sevenoaks, president of Leake Auction Company. “This year is no different, as we have an excellent selection of Cadillacs and an unbelievable assortment of high-performance vehicles selling at no reserve.”

Unique to this year’s auction will be a 1911 Kelsey Motorette, the oldest car at the event. Cadwallader Kelsey built this historic three-wheeled automobile in 1910 to compete with Henry Ford’s newly discount Model T. To cut costs, Kelsey removed the fourth wheel and devised a stabilizer to help balance the car. Three years after it was unveiled at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, production ceased with only 210 produced and shipped throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Denmark and Japan.

Also featured at this year’s auction will be one of the finest selections of Cadillacs in the show’s 35-year history. Among the cars featured will be a 1953 Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado Convertible equipped with a V-8 engine, hydra-matic drive, power steering and power top. Built for the 1953 World’s Fair, the first of these cars was sold and delivered to Dwight D. Eisenhower. Others will include a 1955 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible, 1957 Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado Biarritz Two Door Convertible, 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible and a 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible.

Leake Auction Company was established in Muskogee in 1964 by Jim Leake Sr. as one of the first car auctions in the country. More than 40 years later, three generations of Leakes have worked for the company and sold more than 30,000 cars. Leake Auction Company currently operates auctions in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Dallas and Houston.
