TOPLESS CARS BRING “BIG BUCKS” IN OKLAHOMA CITY

Oklahoma City, Okla. (March 2, 2007)

Oklahoma City was the place to be for car lovers this past weekend. There was an explosion of buyers and sellers eager to get the car of their dreams. “This certainly sets the benchmark for Oklahoma City, it was the biggest and best quality of cars ever offered for sale,” said Leake Auction owner Richard Sevenoaks. Both buyers and sellers were delighted with the variety of cars offered for sale. Some of the highest prices include a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible which sold for $174,960 which includes the buyer premium. This might have been a record price at auction. Other notable cars that sold including the buyer premium:

1954 Buick Skylark Convertible for $162,000
1969 Shelby GT350 Fastback which fetched $98,280
1968 Pontiac GTO Convertible that brought $75,600
1969 Ford Mustang Fastback that went for $74,520

A 1966 AMC Ambassador 990 Convertible at $17,280 was another record breaking price.

The crowds were the largest at any Oklahoma City Auction and they were delighted with the spirited bidding over the Friday and Saturday event. Total sales for the two days were $3,746,000. With two lanes of cars selling at the same time on Saturday, there was always something of interest to see or buy. Participants came from many states to take part.

The lowest priced car to sell was a 1982 Ford Crown Victoria which brought $1,512 at the fall of the hammer. There were 300 cars that went over the auction block with 63% of the cars selling.

“We can’t wait for next year” said Sevenoaks. “The Oklahoma City Sale shows the importance of the strong overall condition of the collector car market. Leake auctions keep the enthusiasm for the hobby alive by bringing a cross-section of vehicles suitable to everyone’s budget. Oklahoma City has been good for the collector cars and we are delighted to be a part of this.” Next year’s auction is slated for February 2008.

Leake’s next auction will take place in Tulsa on the weekend of June 8th, 9th and 10th. The Tulsa Leake Auction is the region’s oldest and largest collector car event with 700 cars indoors at Expo Square. You won’t want to miss it!
