Muscle Cars Rule at Oklahoma City Auction
Oklahoma City, Okla. (January 9, 2006)
"When it comes to cars American-built muscle cars still rule,” says Leake Auction President Richard Sevenoaks. He is preparing for the 2006 Kruse-Leake Auto Auction to be held at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds February 24-25. The auction will run from 1-7 pm on Friday and 10 am to 7 pm Saturday.
“Last year cars from the 50s to the 70s with hundreds of horses prancing under the hoods led to a fantastically successful auction. In looking at the initial cars that have been placed with us for sale it appears the trend is continuing with gusto. This looks like it’s going to be a tremendously exciting sale.”
There is still plenty of time to get cars consigned to the auction. Any car entered before January 20 can still be included in the color brochure.
Among the early entries are a number of cars that would humble most of today’s offerings, and most of them come from Detroit. From Chevrolet there is a 1957 Bel Air Custom two door hardtop, a 1966 Nova SS, a 1968 Camaro SS convertible, a 1968 Corvette and a 1971 Corvette convertible. Ford offerings include a 1967 Thunderbird two door hardtop, a 1969 Fairlane Cobra coupe and a 1969 Mustang Boss 429 fastback. Plymouths include a 1968 GTX, a 1969 Road Runner and a 1965 Tempest GTO two door.
Not all offerings are older: a 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL55K AMG convertible will make someone happy as will a 2005 Mercedes-Benz E55. And if you want something truly unusual check out the 1920 wooden paddle boat.
“As usual,” says Sevenoaks, “we will have a wide range of offerings, but if the past is any indication of the present the muscle cars will draw the most interest. Early indications are that we are going to have a fabulous year. Last year sales totaled $1.98 million. This year we have every hope of exceeding the $2 million mark. I encourage everyone who wants to consign a car to the Oklahoma City auction to get their cars in as quickly as possible. It promises to be a great event.”
The two-day auction runs Feb 24-25 in Oklahoma City at the Travel & Transportation Building on the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds.
