Oklahoma City Another Record Breaker!
Oklahoma City, Okla. (March 20, 2006)
“Our Oklahoma City Auction was the most successful sale yet,” was the way Leake Auction President Richard Sevenoaks described the recent Kruse-Leake auto auction held in Oklahoma City on February 24th and 25th. “Overall we had a handsome improvement over 2005.”
In all, Sevenoaks noted, 245 lots went up for sale, and 148 cars sold for a total of $2.46 million, beating by 33 percent the total sales of 2005 which brought in $1.84 million.
The price range covered a wide area proving that a buyer doesn’t need a bulging pocket book to walk away with a prize. The top sales price was garnered by a 1967 Shelby GT 500 at $205,000 followed by a1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird, which sold for $125,000. At the other end of the spectrum a 1970 Buick LeSabre Custom was sold for $1,000.
Once again the muscle cars were the stars of the show with a host of cars from Detroit’s Big Three made in the 50s through the 70s receiving enthusiastic bids from the assembled buyers. Offerings from the Golden Age of autos were sparse but did exist: a 1931 Ford Model A was had for $17,500.
A total of 59 cars were sold for under $10,000. “That’s the wonderful thing about an auto auction,” said Sevenoaks. “Even those with limited resources can often find bargains.”
The next Leake auction will be in Tulsa, Oklahoma June 9th 10th and 11th in Tulsa’s Expo Square. Considered the classiest and most far-reaching of all the Leake auctions, the Tulsa sale this year will see around 700 items put up for sale. Consignments can be made by calling either Richard Sevenoaks or Mac Durnil at (918) 254-7077 or (800) 722-9942. Information can be obtained on the web site www.leakecar.com or by e-mailing info@leakecar.com.
