American Cars Rule At Oklahoma City Kruse-Leake Auto Auction
Oklahoma City, Okla. (March 8, 2005) —
American cars dominated the action at the Kruse-Leake Auto Auction, which was held at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds Feb. 25-26.
“Classic muscle cars continue to be in high demand,” reported Leake Auction Company president Richard Sevenoaks. “The priciest car was a 1969 Ford Mustang CJ 428 at $81,500, closely followed by a 1970 Plymouth Cuda AAR at $72,000. This follows the trend we have found all over the country where powerful cars from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s have been among the most eagerly sought-after.”
The Oklahoma City auction held bargains for shrewd buyers with a number of cars selling below $10,000. Even two Rolls-Royces were had for a fraction of their original prices. A 1969 Silver Shadow and a 1979 Silver Wraith went for $6,200 each.
Percentages of cars offered and cars sold continued to hold steady. Of the 258 cars offered at the auction 130 sold to make the total a fraction above 50 percent.
Total sales came to $1,988,343. Bid totals were $4,376,570. Friday saw an amazing number of bidders to the delight of the sellers and spectators, alike. Competition was fierce on all cars crossing the turntable Friday. On Saturday a large number of fine vehicles came within $1,000 to $2000 of their reserve price. The bids were strong, but many sellers held on to their cars.
“We were extremely pleased with the results,” said Sevenoaks, “and the list of cars offered shows the attractiveness of American manufacturers. We sold the occasional Jaguar or Mercedes-Benz or BMW but Ford, General Motors and Chrysler products dominated.”
