Kruse-Leake Collector Car Auction Offers Autos and Memorabilia for All Types of Buyers
Oklahoma City, Okla. (February 8, 2005)
Fresh off auctions in Tulsa and Dallas that saw major increases in sales, Leake Auction Company and Kruse International are gearing up for the 2005 Oklahoma City Collector Car Auction Feb. 25-26 at the Travel and Transportation Building on the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds.
“Interest in these wonderful machines has been awesome,” says Leake Auction president Richard Sevenoaks, “and we are looking forward to a banner event in Oklahoma City.”
At the 2004 Oklahoma City auction sales totaled $2.2 million with 308 units offered and 186 sold. A unit is not necessarily an automobile; such items as antique gas pumps, horse-drawn carriages and other memorabilia are often up for sale, but the bulk of the units are autos.
“Muscle cars from the ‘50s to the ‘70s continue to be tremendously popular,” says Sevenoaks. Last year the top seller was a 1971 Dodge Charger R/T 440 which went for $58,500. It was closely followed by a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air ($57,500), a 1968 Shelby GT500 ($52,000) and a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette ($51,000).
As usual some of the most hallowed names in automobiles dotted the list. A 1995 Bentley Turbo R was purchased at $37,500; a 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was sold for $20,250 and a 1985 Ferrari 400 found a new home for $16,600.
“One of the images we constantly have to fight,” says Sevenoaks, “is the one that you have to have a tightly-packed wallet or deep bank account to participate in our auction. Every auction we sell a large number of automobiles for $10,000 or below, some below $2,000. At the recent Dallas auction we sold 65 automobiles in the four-figure range.”
The list of automobiles consigned to the Oklahoma City auction is already growing. Those who wish to sell cars through the auction should contact Richard Sevenoaks at (800) 722-9942 or (918) 254-7077, or check the website at www.leakecar.com.
